Grand Prix Liverpool - Everything you need to know

Updated: May 16, 2023

Nervous at the prospect of running my first GP, I done some googling to find out the last time one was hosted in the United Kingdom but I couldn't find anything listed. So, welcome to (what I'm fairly certain is) the first ever UK Grand Prix! Plan to make a weekend out of it? I'll also be running a tournament on the Sunday where you can win a sealed box of Sword of Caine boosters!

There's a tournament entry fee of £20 for the main event. The win a box on Sunday will be £10, however if you're playing both it'll only cost you £25!

What's happening?

11am sign up with seating at 11:30.

3 rounds + final.

Standard Constructed.

No proxy, no multideck.

Where is it?

For the GP on Saturday, we will be playing in a private function room downstairs in Kimos Restaurant. Kimos is in the city centre, opposite a multistory carpark and only a few minutes walk from Lime Street Station with many bus links nearby.

Kimos serves a large variety of great food from all around the world. For more details, check out their website https://www.kimos.co.uk/

While the downstairs is not wheelchair accessible, the owner has agreed that we can use some of the ground floor tables should we require it.

Sunday's event will be at Dough Bar, our weekly bleebing venue. Dough Bar is again in the City Centre, right opposite Lime Street. If you stick around for drinks after the GP, I'm sure myself and the local players will walk you there. While famous for its pizza, Dough Bar has plenty of food options and a good range of drinks, whether you'd rather have a coffee or a beer.

What do I get out of it?

Well, every player will be given promos on entry, with plenty more available for players finishing top.

Thanks to our sponsors Ultra PRO, we will also be handing out a bunch of branded goodies! Some to the methuselahs who make the final table, and some given as spot prizes.

The winner will be taking home this amazing trophy! (The handsome devil in the reflection will be staying in Liverpool, however.)

I'm also on the lookout for some additional prizes, I'll go shopping once I've got a better idea of numbers!

What is a Liverpool and why do I want to go there?

Liverpool is a great city with a population famous for our friendliness and good humour. The city has a great music scene, especially with Eurovision happening the week before our GP. If you're a fan of live music we have plenty available each night. If you're a fan of beer or gin, Liverpool is home to great brewers and distillers and I'll happily guide you to great pubs or bars you can sample them in. We're also host to a bunch of historical buildings, docks, parks, two cathedrals, two football stadiums, several cricket clubs, not to mention the endless supply of Beatles tours. We also have a very active LGBTQ scene, with tons of drag events happening in May and a plethora of gay bars.

If there's something in particular you'd like to do or see and need more information, feel free to get in touch with me by Facebook, Instagram or comment on this post.

Okay, is that everything?

Well, one more thing. We'll be graced with the presence of Noora Hirvonen, fantastic artist of the game as well as a great player, having won Grand Prix Hyvinkää in last years European circuit.

Noora will be at Grand Prix Liverpool, with prints of your favourites of her artwork for sale.

If you don't recognise the name, I won't tell her, just check out the picture to the right.

Right, I'm in! What do I do now?

Great! You can preregister by filling in this simple form.
